Q :-Is my company right candidate for outsourcing ?
Ans :- Project which could be carried out least interaction isolated or
not tied to company specific infrastructure are the good candidte for
the outsourcing. However to begin with it is always good idea to first
outsource non-critical systems.
Q
:-Do I retain control on the projects outsourced?
Ans :- When you outsource part of your system to vendor you lose some
degree of control ,if some vendor tells you keep 100% control .It’s a
lie. It could be because your vendor is expert in his area ,he may
suggest you the best practices of industry .If you are adamant about
your procedures .it may not work .Outsourcing is like a marriage where
both the parties need to put together a common set of agreed upon terms
and procedures. The very nature of geographically distributed nature of
outsourcing ,you are likely to loose some degree of control.
Q
:- What is the investment in outsourcing?
Ans :- Once you pick the right skilled vendor ,you pay some fee to get
the things rolling i.e. arranging licenses ,set up development team etc.
Until things are 100 % functional at the outsourced site ,on-site and
off-site system co-exist for few weeks (4-8 weeks.).After that onsite
team may be managed by one manager and off site team.
Q
:- Whom do i communicate ,if i have some problem?
Ans :- You will be assigned a liason manager contact person through whom
all communication flows.
Q
:- What part of project activities happen onsite/offsite.?
Ans :- Requirements study ,planning happen on the client site.Design
,Development ,Integration testing happen offsite.QA and production
testing takes place onsite. We follow the constant communication via
email, phone one-on-one meetings ,satus updates weekly and or as often as
need basis.
Q
:- How does software/hardwre licenses work ?
Ans :- If you have existing licenses we can use 'em.QA and production
environment usually are clients expense and hosted at the client
site. While development platform ,license can be adjusted either way.
Q
:- What are the challenges in outsourcing projects?
Ans :- A well defined documented procedure need to be followed ,because
stake holders and vendor are geographically different location.Regular
weekly meetings, status updates help keep the progress in check. Since
outside entity is involved and if vendor's work is getting delayed due
to your companys delays ,you may need to come up internal strategies to
escalate these kind of issues to proper authority promptly. These kind
of unforseen factors needs to be spelled out in contract terms and
conditions.
Q
:- Do you have a general format which one can follow to help this
procedure?
Ans :- Due to varied nature and complexity of the task ,it is difficult
to come up with one size fits all approach. We can customize plan which
works best for your new projects or maintainence projects.
Q
:- Where do i get more information ?
Ans :- You can get more information by sending email to iinfo@eoxygensystems.com.
